How to Deal With Facebook Hijacks

Facebook hijacking is a serious issue, especially when it happens to you. If your account was recently compromised, you should report it immediately if you cannot gain access. Many times Facebook users are able to gain access to their accounts within a few minutes. If your account hasn't been hijacked, you can take preventive steps to thwart future hacking attempts by editing your account security settings.

Instructions

  1. Reporting

    • 1

Go to facebook.com/hacked in your browser window and click the "My Account Is Compromised" button.

    • 2

Enter one of the following pieces of information to identify your account. Your identification options include entering your email or phone number, your Facebook username or your full name and a friend's name. Click the "Search" button.

    • 3

Enter your password on the next page or if you no longer know your password, click the "Don't know your password?" link.

    • 4

Select how you want to receive the reset password message from Facebook. You can have the message sent to your email or mobile phone.

    • 5

    • 7

Go to the "Security" section and edit any of the available options. You can have Facebook prompt you for a security question if you lose your password, enable secure browsing using the secure-HTTP protocol, receive login notifications and require login approvals when signing in from an unknown computer or device.

Click the "Save Changes" button after editing and updating any of the settings on the "Security Settings" page. Updating or enabling settings on this page helps to prevent your Facebook account from being hijacked.
