How to Put a Metal Ring in Clothes

How to Put a Metal Ring in Clothes thumbnail
Metal rings are often attached to fishing and hunting vests.

Metal rings attached to clothing are useful while fishing, hunting or hiking because they can be used to clip on various objects. They are also seen purely for style purposes on casual vests, pants and shirts. Metal rings can be purchased at most craft stores and are normally quite inexpensive. Whether for use or for style, metal rings can be put in clothing in a very short time using basic sewing skills.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure the diameter of the circle. If the ring is a 'D' ring, measure the length of the straight part of the ring.

    • 2

Cut a strip of fabric equal to the diameter of the circle. For a 'D' ring, double the length of the straight part of the ring and cut a strip of fabric equal to this amount.

    • 3

Fold the fabric strip in half with the right side of the fabric facing inward. Sew along the open edge of the strip.

    • 4

Turn the strip right side out.

    • 5

Fold the two open edges inward 3/8 inch. Sew along the two edges to hold the fold in place.

    • 6

Fold the fabric strip in half and insert the metal ring on the strip. Pin the two ends of the strip onto the clothing, such as a pocket or side seam. Sew to secure the strip in place.

Tips & Warnings

  • If using the metal ring to clip things, make sure to use a strong, thick fabric.
