How Do I Export KotOR Models With GMax?
With some free programs, you can make your own models for "Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic," or KotOR. One of the most common 3-D modeling programs for this is GMax. To export files from GMax into a format that will work in the game, you will need to install two other programs. The first is NWMax, a plug-in for GMax. The other is MDLOps. This program will allow you to export your models from GMax into a form that KotOR will recognize. You may also need to download KOTOR Tool to make your model, if you haven't done so already.
Instructions

-
1
Create a folder on your desktop called "Output."
-
2
Open GMax with the NWMax icon, not the Gmax icon. Open your model, and make sure that all parts of the model are currently selected. The easiest way to do this is to "Select All" by pressing "Ctrl" and "A."
-
-
3
Go to "Mesh Tools" and then "ResetXForm" in the NWMax panel.
-
4
Select the model you wish to export.
-
5
Select "Modify" and then "Export." Select your Output folder as the destination.
-
6
Open MDLOps.
-
7
Open your model (from the Output folder), and select "Read and Write File." You should now have two files with the ".bin" extension in your Output folder.
-
8
Move both of these files to the Override folder in your main KotOR folder.
-
9
Rename the files with their original ".mdl" and ".mdx" file extensions.

Tips & Warnings
Before exporting your model, you need to link ever part of the model to one base part. The base part can be any part of the model. Once you've done that, you need to link the base part to the item (for example, sv_blaster).
