How to Make Corcoran Boots Less Shiny
Corcoran makes boots for the military and security personnel. Many of the boots come with a spit-polish shine. If you are not in the military, and therefore not required to maintain this high-gloss polish, it is possible to make your Corcoran boots less shiny. The shine on the boots is a result of pressure applied during polishing, not the type of polish applied, so simply applying a new coat of polishing paste will help you control how shiny your Corcoran boots are. Does this Spark an idea?
Things You'll Need
- Boot polishing paste
- Soft, lint-free cloth
- Rotary tool with cloth buffing wheel
Instructions

1
Clean the boots with a mild detergent to remove any dirt. Dirt left on the leather while you are polishing the boots will grind into the surface and create scratches.
-
2
Wrap a soft, lint-free cloth around the index finger or first two fingers of one hand.
-
-
3
Pick up a thick layer of boot polishing paste from the tin with the cloth. Use a polish the same color as your boots.
-
4
Apply the polish to the boot with a circular motion.
-
5
Cover the entire boot with one or two layers of polish. At this stage, the boot should have a dull finish.
-
6
Use a clean cloth or a cloth wheel mounted on a hand-held rotary tool to buff the boot polish to the desired shine.

Tips & Warnings
Apply a leather conditioner to your boots every one to two months to keep the leather supple and to avoid cracking.
If you purchased Corcoran's waterproof boots, you will have to wait for the boots' finish to get dull naturally because of daily wear. Applying polish to the boots will render the waterproofing treatment useless.
