How to Make a Cute Keychain Made Out of Yarn
Create personalized keychains with yarn and pony beads. This tassel-style keychain craft is great for building fine motor skills in young children and makes a whimsical gift for Mother's Day or birthdays. Plastic pony beads come in a wide range of shapes, sizes and colors and are safe for children. Practice color and shape identification by sorting the beads before you thread them on yarn.

1
Cut the yarn into five 8-inch pieces. They won't be that long when you are finished, but it gives little fingers enough yarn to work with while beading.
-
2
Tie each piece of yarn around the key ring and knot it at the top. An overhand knot will work fine.
-
-
3
Wrap a small piece of clear tape around the end of each piece of yarn. This makes a stiff end to thread through the bead.
-
4
Thread beads onto each piece of yarn. Encourage your child to make a pattern, even if it's simply alternating colors. The amount of beads is dependent on your pattern and the child's attention span. Try to keep the length of each string less than 5 inches so the keychain isn't too bulky.
-
5
Tie the yarn around the last bead on each string and secure it with an overhand knot. Cut off the excess yarn.
