How to Submit to iTunes

How to Submit to iTunes thumbnail
The iTunes store integrates with iPods and iPhones to deliver content.

ITunes handles two main types of content: podcasts and purchasable media. Submit your podcast -- an episodic recording available for free -- to iTunes so that people will be able to easily find and download your content through the iTunes store. Upload your purchasable content, like music that you've recorded, if you want to sell your original work through iTunes. Apple requires you to fill out an application for submitting your purchasable content and they will charge you to be included in the iTunes store to sell your media. Podcasts are completely free to submit and download.

Instructions

    • 1

Record and prepare your podcast file. Once the file is recorded and edited to your liking, upload it to your online media server. Connect the URL for your audio to a real simple syndication -- or RSS -- service. Many blogging sites can automate this process for you. Once you have the file uploaded at the URL for your RSS feed you can continue.

    • 2

Open the iTunes software on your computer. Click on "iTunes Store" in the list on the left. Click "Podcasts" from the bar across the top.

    • 3

Click "Submit a Podcast" from the list on the right. Copy and paste the URL of your podcast's RSS feed into the box and then click "Continue." Enter your iTunes username and password and then click "OK." The iTunes store will check your feed information and publish it to the iTunes directory.

Tips & Warnings

  • Optionally, upload an image with your podcast. This will make your podcast more likely to be selected by people browsing through iTunes.

  • Submit your purchasable content through itunesconnect.apple.com.
