Friendship bracelets come in all colors and sizes.

If you are looking to make something to give to a special friend to remind him of you or to let him know you are thinking of him, a friendship bracelet is an option. With the use of embroidery floss, you can create a customized friendship bracelet. You are free to use any colors to create a combination of your friend's favorite colors or colors that have special meaning for the two of you. A thinner bracelet can serve as a more subtle reminder of your friendship.

Things You'll Need

  • Embroidery floss (at least two colors)

Instructions

    • 1

Select between two and four colors of embroidery floss you want to use for your friendship bracelet. Using four strands creates a thinner bracelet.

    • 2

Cut a total of four pieces of embroidery floss that are about 36 inches long. If you choose two colors, cut two of each. For three colors, choose one color to appear twice.

    • 3

Tie the ends of the four strands together in a tight knot. This knot creates the first end of your bracelet.

    • 4

Tape the knotted end of the bracelet onto a hard surface, such as a table, wall or desk. This secures the bracelet and allows you to pull the knots tightly.

    • 5

Spread out the four strands so it is easy to see which order they go in.

    • 6

Start with the first color on the left. Cross the lefthand strand over the strand immediately to its right, forming a number four shape with the two strands. Loop the lefthand strand under the second strand and up through the inside of the four shape. Pull it tight and slide the knot all the way up to the knot holding the four strands together. Create a second knot in the same manner with the same two strands.

    • 7

Push the second strand to the left and use the first strand to create a double knot on the third strand in the same way as Step 6. Repeat this process with the first and fourth strands. The first strand is now your fourth strand on the right. Each strand has moved one spot to the left.

    • 8

Repeat the process with each strand in turn. After the first strand has moved all the way to the right, take the new first strand and work your way over to the right, moving each strand one position to the left. Repeat until the bracelet is the desired length.

    • 9

Knot the four strands together tightly against the last row of knots in the bracelet to finish it. Cut off any excess embroidery floss, leaving about 1/4 to 1/2 inch of floss at the end.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you want the bracelet skinnier, you can use just two or three strands instead.
