1
Press the "Colder" button on the control panel and hold it until the desired refrigerator temperature is displayed if the refrigerator is not working or cooling as expected. Set the temperature between 34 and 47 degrees Fahrenheit. Replace or reset the circuit breaker or fuse if the refrigerator has no power, and make sure the power cord is pushed firmly into a power outlet.
-
2
Push the doors closed firmly if the motor is running for long periods after you've made sure no food is holding the door open and the door gasket is clean. Note that the motor will operate more during warm weather or when warm food is set inside.
-
-
3
Level the GE refrigerator if it is rattling or vibrating by adjusting the feet, all of which should be in firm contact with the ground.
-
4
Replace the water filter if the ice cubes are small or hollow or the water tastes bad. Replacement filters are available in many appliance or home retail stores and directly through GE. Dispense the water for several minutes to replenish the system and remove any air from the lines. Press and hold the "Reset Water Filter" button for three seconds once the new water filter is installed to change the water filter indicator light to green.
-
5
Set the refrigerator to a warmer setting if the ice maker is working but water is not dispensing. Allow 24 hours for the temperature to change.
-
6
Turn on the ice maker if there is no ice in the bin. The switch should be set to "I" for "On." Make sure you allow at least 24 hours for the freezer to make ice. Level the ice cubes or discard some ice if the ice bin is so full that no more ice is produced. Remove any ice cubes stuck in the ice maker if the green light on the ice maker is blinking.
-
7
Protect or wrap food items if the refrigerator, freezer or ice has an odor. Clean the surfaces with baking soda and water, and set an open box of baking soda in both compartments to help protect against future odors.
-
8
Move items away from the air vents in the refrigerator near the controls if the food is freezing. Set the temperature control higher by pressing "Warmer" on the control panel until a warmer temperature is set.
-
9
Close the refrigerator doors if the alarm is beeping.
