DIY Headband With Rosette and Netting

Decorate a plain headband with homemade rosettes and netting for spring or bridal showers, for flower girls or for any other reason you like. You can choose color combinations for the rosettes and netting that will make the headpieces suitable for any holiday. Choose red and green for Christmas, orange and black for Halloween or bright primary colors for a bold look. This is a good way to use up scraps of fabric or fabric remnants purchased on sale.

Instructions

    • 1

Cut a piece of fabric into a strip that's 1 inch to 1 1/2 inch wide and 12 inches to 24 inches long, depending on the rosette size you want.

    • 2

Fold the strip of fabric lengthwise. Glue the ends together with fabric glue. Add a drop of fabric glue every few inches and press to hold the fold. It doesn't have to be perfectly flat.

    • 3

Roll the folded strip from one end, with the folded edge facing up until you have a rosette. Push a straight pin into the end of the strip to secure it.

    • 4

Flip the rosette over and spread fabric glue over the back side. Cut a round piece of fabric roughly the size of the rosette back. When the glue is tacky, press the round piece over the glue. Allow the rosette to dry completely before removing the straight pin.

    • 5

Cut a two inch wide, eight inch long strip of tulle. Fold each end into the center. Place a dot of hot glue on the headband and press the center of the tulle on top of it, so that the ends stay in place, making a bow shape.

    • 6

Hot glue the rosette to the center of the tulle bow on the headband.

    • 7

Cut another strip of tulle and wrap it over the rosette, if desired. Hot glue it in place.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can glue on mini gemstones as embellishment if you like.

  • Make multiple rosettes for multi-rosette headbands.

  • For an infant headband, use a piece of elastic cut to size and sewn into a loop.
