Instructions

    • 1

Measure and cut two 65-inch strands of embroidery floss in each color. Match up the ends of the strands and fold them in half to find the middle. Tie a slip knot with the strands and transfer the knot to the middle, near the fold. Pull the knot tight about a half inch below the fold, creating a loop with the strands. Because they are folded, you should now have eight strands, four strands of each color.

    • 2

Position the knot underneath the clip on the clipboard. The clip will hold the knot and bracelet in place as you create the double heart pattern.

    • 3

Untangle and separate all eight strands into two sets of four, with two strands of each color in each set. Line each strand up beside one another, starting with the strand color that will outline the heart. Alternate the colors with the first four strands. The four right strands should be lined up the same way, starting with the outlining color. For example, imagine you are using black and white, with white being your outlining color. The first four strands will be white, black, white and black. The next four strands will also be white, black, white and black.

    • 4

Grab the last string on the right and make a backward knot with the seventh string. A backward knot is used when you are working right to left. Lay the last string on top of the seventh string. Wrap it underneath and back up the right side. Pull the string to transfer the knot to the top of the bracelet. Repeat this twist to tie the backward knot. Notice the two strands have switched positions.

    • 5

Tie two more backward knots with the same strand. Because the strand has moved left, tie the first knot on the sixth strand. Tie the second backward knot on the fifth strand.

    • 6

Grab the first strand and make a forward knot on the second strand. A forward knot is the same as a backward knot, but you are working left to right. Lay the first strand on top of the second strand. Loop it underneath and back up the left side. Pull the string tight to transfer the knot to the top of the bracelet. Repeat this twist to tie the forward knot. Notice the two strands have switched positions, but in the opposite direction as with the backward knot.

    • 7

Tie three more forward knots with the same strand. The first knot will go on the third strand. Tie the second knot on the fourth strand. The third knot will tie onto the fifth strand, which is the strand that was first used to tie the backward knots. This joins the two strands together, creating a "V" shape at the top of the bracelet.

    • 8

Repeat this process to make a second "V" shaped row. Tie three backward knots with the last strand, working it toward the middle. Tie four forward knots with the first strand, working that toward the middle as well. The fourth knot will join the two middle strands.

    • 9

Tie a forward knot with the seventh strand, leaving it at the end of the bracelet. Tie a backward knot with the second strand, leaving it at the beginning of the bracelet.

    • 10

Make two backward knots with the seventh strand. Make three forward knots with the second strand. The last forward knot will join the two working strands together. The top outline of the first heart has been made.

    • 11

Tie a forward knot with the seventh strand. Tie a backward knot with the second strand. This creates the top shape of the heart.

    • 12

Make two backward knots with the seventh strand. Make three forward knots with the second strand. The last knot will join the two strands in the middle. This creates the top edge for the heart outline.

    • 13

Continue working down the bracelet tying forward and backward knots. Because the bottom of the heart is "V" shaped, simply follow the same method to complete the bottom of the heart that was used to create the "V" at the top of the bracelet. Repeat Steps 4 through 12 until the bracelet is finished. Leave about a 5-inch tail.

    • 14

Separate the eight strands in half, with four on each side. Braid each side together, creating two braids. Use a four-strand braid method or simply hold two strands together and treat them as one to use the common braid method. Tie a knot at the end of each braid.

    • 15

Tie the two braided strands together with the loop made at the top of the bracelet to secure it in place.
