Instructions

    • 1

Cover the cakes with plastic wrap, and freeze them for a couple of hours. You don't want them to be too hard, but warm cakes can crumble on you. Also, frozen cakes are easier to cut into a heart shape.

    • 2

Trace a circle on white paper using the base of the cake pan as a guide. Cut the circle out with scissors, cutting slightly on the inside of the line to make the circle a bit smaller than the cake. Fold the paper in half, and cut it into a heart shape.

    • 3

Take the cakes out of the freezer, and remove the plastic wrap from them.

    • 4

Set the heart-shaped paper on top of one of the cake rounds.

    • 5

Cut the cake along the template using a knife. Repeat with the second cake round.

    • 6

Place the filling on top of one of the cake hearts. Set the second cake heart on top of the first. The filling will hold the cakes steady.

    • 7

Frost your heart-shaped cake as desired, and then serve.

Tips & Warnings

  • If the cake starts getting crumbly while you are frosting it, return it to the freezer for an hour.
