Replacing a zipper on a sweatshirt is one of the easiest clothing repairs to do.

While zippers offer versatility and style to clothing items, they can be somewhat temperamental and often malfunction and break. Fortunately, zippers can be simply and quickly replaced to give your clothing a new lease on life. Hollister is a popular casual clothing brand whose sweatshirts have been made famous by celebrities, such as Miley Cyrus. A #8 metal zipper can be purchased from a local sewing retailer and replaced in your Hollister sweatshirt within an hour.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure the length of the current zipper on your Hollister sweatshirt with measuring tape.

    • 2

Visit your local sewing or fabric retailer and purchase a #8 metal zipper in the same length as the current zipper.

    • 3

Zip up the sweatshirt and turn it inside-out. Take out each stitch that attaches the zipper to the fabric along the length of your Hollister sweatshirt with a quick unpick. You will need to do this on both the left- and right-hand sides of the zipper.

    • 4

Remove the old #8 zipper and position the new #8 zipper in the same location on the sweatshirt. Pin the new zipper in place with sewing pins.

    • 5

Sew the new zipper onto the sweatshirt fabric with a sewing machine. Sew the length of the zipper on both the left- and right-hand sides, beginning at the bottom of the sweatshirt and ending at the top. Sew slowly and remove the pins as you go.
