How to Make a Girls' Flapper Hat
In the roaring '20s, many women dressed up in flapper hats and sequined and fringed dresses to visit speakeasies where they danced all night to jazz music. Duplicating a flapper costume is not complicated and is relatively inexpensive. One of the most important features is the flapper hat, which that gives a girl a carefree and jaunty look. A flapper hat is perfect for a girl of any age to wear to a masquerade or Halloween party or a dance recital.
Things You'll Need
- Elastic fabric headband
- Hot glue gun and glue sticks
- Feather

Instructions

1
Cover the work surface with an old towel or newspaper.
-
2
Lay the elastic fabric headband flat on the work surface. Coordinate the color of the headband to your dress or hair color if possible.
-
-
3
Glue the end of the feather to one section of the elastic fabric headband with the hot glue gun.
-
4
Place several sequins near the headband. Squeeze the hot glue over the end of the feather so that you have a swirl that is approximately the size of a quarter coin. Sprinkle the sequins onto the hot glue before it dries. It is important to work quickly.

Another idea is to glue a large faux gem to cover the end of the feather. Allow the glue to cool for about 60 seconds before slipping the headband around your forehead.
-
6
Position the headband so it is directly above your eyebrows and the feather is facing up on one side of your head.

Tips & Warnings
Cut the bloom off a large silk flower and glue it to the headband instead of using a feather and sparkly gems.
Add a long string of pearls and a feather boa to your costume if you desire. This gives it an authentic look.
Create a beauty mark near your mouth or eye with a black eyeliner to further enhance the flapper girl outfit.
