How to Get in the Ruin Maniac's Cave in "Pearl"
In "Pokemon Pearl," the routes that run between Sinnoh's major cities and towns offer numerous side quests. For example, on Route 214, you will find the Ruin Maniac's Cave. The lonely Ruin Maniac spends his time digging a tunnel that leads to the Solaceon Ruins. After speaking with the Ruin Maniac, he will challenge you a race. As you capture more forms of the Unown, Psychic-type Pokemon shaped like letters of the alphabet, he will dig further into the hillside until the tunnel is complete.

Tips & Warnings
Exit the cave and travel to the Solaceon Ruins on the east side of Solaceon Town in central Sinnoh. Navigate through the ruins, capturing as many different shapes of Unown as you can. By the time you've collected all 26, the Ruin Maniac's Cave will have become the Ruin Maniac's Tunnel. The tunnel leads to a secret room with the Solaceon Ruins. In this room, you can find two rare shapes of Unown.
You can find TM28, which contains the Dig technique, north of the Ruin Maniac. In battle, Dig is a powerful Ground-type attack. When used outside of battle, the move allows you to escape caves.
The Ruin Maniac's lair is the only place you can capture wild Hippopotas, Ground-type Pokemon that resemble hippopotamuses.
