How to Create a Mission
Mission trips are taken by men, women and children of various religious denominations who want to start new churches, provide humanitarian relief or spread the growth of their faith. Many churches sponsor mission trips for members of their congregation and for other churches with similar beliefs. Also, independent organizations such as Campus Crusade for Christ and Wycliffe Bible Translators sponsor missions. Create a mission by identifying a place of need and a purpose for your trip.

1
Research countries that have specific needs that match your skills. Make a list of the top three destinations. If you're a member of a church, talk to your head pastor about sponsorship opportunities.
-
2
Determine the purpose of your mission and how many people are needed to accomplish your goal. Planting a new church may take fewer people than it would to provide health and human services aid to impoverished areas.
-
-
3
Create a budget based on your purpose and projected number of people. Factor in the cost of travel, accommodations, living expenses and food. Include the costs of obtaining visas and other travel documents.
-
4
Write sponsorship request letters to churches and non-profit organizations that support mission trips. If you're a member of a church, you can start with your own congregation, but also obtain information on local and national churches of the same denomination that may provide financial support.
-
5
Contact humanitarian and existing missionaries in the mission field where you are going to explore possible joint projects you can undertake. Familiarize yourself with the culture of the country where you are creating the mission.
-
6
Create a statement of interest that lists the mission trip location, dates, costs and goals. Hand out the statement of interest at your local church, or publish it in a newspaper or social media and by creating a dedicated website.
-
7
Obtain visas, travel documents and vaccinations for all members of the mission's team at least six weeks before the mission's trip.
-
8
Hold final meetings to go over the mission agenda and to answer any last-minute questions.
