How to Download Canon HF R100 Onto an iMac
If you have shot video with your Canon Vixia HF R100 camcorder, you might want to download them onto your iMac so you can watch and edit the videos. The HF R100 is a digital video camcorder that shoots movies in standard and high-definition format. Every iMac comes with Apple's free iMovie application already installed, which you can use to import your digital videos and then edit them. You can easily download Canon HG R100 digital videos onto your iMac.

Click "iMovie" on the Dock of your Mac to launch Apple's native video editing application.

Power on your Cannon Vixia HF R100 digital camcorder, and connect it to a USB port on your iMac with the camera's included USB cable.

Click "File" from the iMovie menu, and then click "Import from Camera." The Import window appears, showing thumbnails of the videos on the HF R100.

Click the "Automatic/Manual" option switch in the Import window to "Automatic."

Click "Import All." Click the "Save To" pull-down menu to select the folder and disk on your iMac where you want to save the imported videos. It takes about 13GB per hour to store standard DV digital video, and it takes about 40GB per hour to store high-definition video. The amount of available space appears next to the name of each disk mounted on your iMac.

Click "Add to Existing Event" if you want to download this batch of videos from your HF R100 into a previous video download event in iMovie, and then click the name of the event from the pop-up menu. Type a name for a new event in the "Create New Event" text box if you want to download this batch of videos into a new event in iMovie. You use events in iMovie to organize video import sessions.

Click "OK" to download the videos to your iMac.
