How to Report Edits to Wikipedia

Wikipedia is an online encyclopedia project whose content is written and edited by online volunteers. As such, it is possible for incorrect information to be edited into a Wikipedia article without the article's moderators knowing. However, Wikipedia has a vandalism reporting system that lets you report fallacious edits and the users who post them in a few simple steps.

Instructions

    • 1

Click the "English" link on Wikipedia's home page to enter the English Wikipedia site.

    • 2

Click the "Help" link beneath the "Interaction" heading, followed by the "Keeping Track of Changes" link on the following page.

    • 3

Click the "Reporting Vandalism to Administrators" link beneath the "Vandalism" heading. Click the "Edit" tab at the top of the page.

    • 4

Copy "* {{IPvandal|IP address}} brief reason for listing (keep it short) ~~~~" if the user you wish to report is an anonymous user. Copy "* {{Vandal|username}} optional brief reason for listing (keep it short) ~~~~" if the user you wish to report is a registered user.

    • 5

Paste the appropriate report template at the bottom of the "Edit" window. Type the user's IP address in the space labeled "IP address" if you are reporting an anonymous user. Type the user's username in the space labeled "username" if you are reporting a registered user.

    • 6

Type a reason for reporting the user in the space labeled "optional brief reason for listing (keep it short)."

Click the "Save Changes" button to report the user to Wikipedia's administrators.
