How to Build a 4X10 Speaker Bracket
Most car stereo speakers are made in 'standard' sizes, but there are a few exceptions, such as 4 by 10 inch speakers. These speakers were produced and installed in certain American made cars during the 1970s and 80s. If you have such a speaker, you probably already know that it will not fit in your car which is more suited for the standard 6 by 9 inch dimension.

1
Place the speaker down on your piece of plywood, front down, magnet up.
-
2
Trace the outline of your speaker, including the four mounting holes in each corner. Cut out this shape with your jigsaw, which will become your speakers mounting bracket.
-
-
3
Place the plywood cutout upside down over the standard 6 by 9 speaker housing. Climb into the trunk of your car and trace onto the plywood form the four mounting holes that should be used to mount a 6 by 9 speaker onto the plywood form itself. The plywood bracket should be centered over the 6 by 9 mount as much as possible.
-
4
Draw an outline, inside the edges of the plywood bracket, 1/2-inch from the sides, and around the holes used for mounting the speaker, both the holes for the 4 by 10 speaker and the 6 by 9 mounting holes.
-
5
Drill out the holes for both speaker sizes, then mount the bracket to the 6 by 9 mount through the four matching holes using some screws. Then mount the speaker to the bracket through the pre-drilled holes using some 1/2-inch wood screws. Connect the positive and negative audio terminals to your stereo through some speaker wire and enjoy.
