How to Bead Lighters

How to Bead Lighters thumbnail
Make a lighter more interesting by covering it with a beaded wrap.

You can add beads to the outside of a lighter by creating a lighter wrap made from seed beads. This lighter wrap can be made and then transferred between lighters, which is handy because you can transfer the beads to a new lighter every time your beaded lighter runs out of lighter fluid. Choose any combination of bead colors that you desire, but light and dark beads are recommended to create a more noticeable pattern.

Instructions

    • 1

Add an even number of seed beads onto a thread with the help of a sewing needle and alternate between light and dark colors. Use the needle and go back through all the beads to create a tight circle that will fit snugly around a lighter. Tie the beaded circle off with a double knot.

Use a needle and thread to begin with an even-count peyote stitch beading pattern. Go through the first dark bead on the bead circle and add a light bead to begin making a new row for the bead lighter wrap. Go through the next dark bead from your first row and add another light bead to the new row. Continue this bead add-on process until the row comes full circle.

Begin the next row by going through the first light bead added in the previous row and add a dark bead to continue with a new row. Go through the next light bead from the below row, and add a new dark bead to add to the new row. Continue adding rows of light and dark beads until the wrap is long enough to cover your lighter. Tie off the end of the wrap with a double knot after you go through the last bead in the final row. Use scissors to cut off the leftover thread.
