How to Stain Cypress Posts
Cypress is a type of lumber that is derived from an evergreen tree. The wood is light colored with an attractive grain pattern that is popular for use on home floors. However, cypress lumber is fairly versatile and can also be used for items like fence or deck posts. Install the post in the ground and reinforce it with either dirt or concrete.

Apply wood stain to the majority of the cypress post using a paint roller. Wipe the stain with a rag so you don't get drip marks. Use a stain that's waterproof with UV and mildew protection.

Touch up the stain in smaller areas, such as around the ground, with a paintbrush. Wipe any drips with a rag.

Allow the wood stain to dry. Apply another coat or two if you're not happy with the color of the first coat.

Tips & Warnings
An opaque stain will last longer than a clear or semi-transparent stain.
