How to Fix a Zipper That Doesn't Close
People often take zippers for granted when they work, and find it very frustrating when they don't. But a broken zipper doesn't mean you have to replace a pair of pants, jacket or bag. You can usually fix most zipper problems quickly. Does this Spark an idea?
Things You'll Need
- Manicure scissors
- Wax or lubricant
- Small screwdriver
- Needle
- Heavy thread

Look at the zipper. The problem might be as simple as a piece of cloth or thread caught between the zipper teeth.

Clip or remove the obstruction, using small manicure scissors.

Rub wax, lip balm or another lubricant on the zipper teeth, then open and close it a few times to restore function.
Zipper Off Track

Examine zipper. If one side has come off track, carefully rip out the stitching at the bottom of the zipper tape using manicure scissors.

Pry the metal stopper at the base of the zipper away with a small screwdriver. Be careful not to rip the zipper or the clothing.

Move the zipper slider to the bottom of the zipper track, and carefully line up the two sides of the zipper.

Zip the slider up, until it has joined the two sides of the zipper.

Replace the metal stopper at the bottom of the zipper by stitching a few laps with heavy thread.
