How to Install Dolphin on HostUpon

Boonex Dolphin is an online social community building software package that includes forums, photo galleries and advanced blogging features. HostUpon makes the free version of this software package easily available for distribution to its Web hosting clients. You can use HostUpon to install Boonex Dolphin easily and quickly on any website you are hosting without having to download and install the program yourself. You access the automatic installation feature by logging into your cPanel and selecting Dolphin from the list of programs available for installation directly from cPanel.

Instructions

    • 1

Launch any Web browser. Type your website address followed by a slash (/) and the word "cpanel" into your browser text window. Wait a moment for the cPanel home page to appear.

    • 2

Scroll down to the bottom of the cPanel home page, and click the "Site software" icon --- the second icon to the left under the "Software/services" header.

    • 3

Click "Dolphin ad free version" on the list of available software that appears after you click the "Site software" icon. Wait a few seconds for the Dolphin installation page to appear.

    • 4

Type the name you want to give the subdomain into which you want to install Dolphin in the "Add a subdomain" field. For instance, if you want people to access your Dolphin community by typing "/community" after your site URL, name the subdomain "community." Leave the subdomain field blank if you want the Dolphin community home page to become your home page.

    • 5

Type an administrator name and password in the appropriate text fields, then type your email address.

    • 6

Click the "Install" button at the bottom of the installation page. Check your email a minute or two after you click the button for a message showing your Dolphin installation is complete.

    • 7

Click the link in the message to access and set up your Dolphin community.

Tips & Warnings

  • Some versions of the Dolphin installer may not let you install Dolphin directly into your root directory so the Dolphin home page becomes your home page. If you encounter this problem, you can deal with it as follows so your home page becomes the Dolphin welcome page:

  • Launch Windows Notepad or your Mac text editor, and type "<?php header('Location: http://www.my-domain.com/dolphin/') ;?>" into a new Notepad file. Replace "my-domain.com" with your domain address.

  • Save the file under the name "Index.php," and close your text editor.

  • Log in to your cPanel per Step 1, and use the File Manager function to upload "index.php" into your main "/public_html/" folder.

  • Type your home page address into your browser, and look for the Dolphin welcome page.
