How to Get Rid of a Fishy Odor at Home
The smell of fish is one of the more unpleasant odors that can permeate a house, especially the kitchen. Because fish odors are typically a byproduct of cooking, preparation is the key to minimizing the odor. Getting rid of the stink after the fact may take more effort. Things You'll Need
- Resealable food containers
- Saucepan
- White vinegar
- Towels
- Sponge
- Lemon juice
- Baking soda
- Table salt
- Candles and matches

Take out the trash and remove any fish scraps left over from a meal, especially shrimp shells, fish skin and bones.

Place leftover fish and seafood into resealable containers and refrigerate immediately after the meal.

Open windows to circulate fresh air.

Pour 1 cup of white vinegar in a saucepan and set on the stove at medium heat. The vinegar counteracts fish odors as it warms.

Drape towels dampened in water over kitchen cabinet doors and hang from counter tops to absorb fish odors quickly.

Wipe countertops where you've been preparing fish with a sponge dampened with lemon juice.

Pour 1 tsp. of table salt into your open palms and wash your hands in cold water.
