How to Make Claws

How to Make Claws thumbnail
For safety to oneself and others, claws should not be too sharp.

Claws are a "must" for certain costumes. If you are planning to dress as a witch, cat or dinosaur, for instance, claws will complete the costume. Different materials can be used to make claws, depending on your costume needs. Whether you want to make curly claws or pointed claws, you can easily prepare these fingertips at home.

Instructions

Make silver claws with foil. Cut 10 strips of aluminium foil. Make the strips 4 inches tall and as wide as the sheet of foil (at least 12 inches). Wrap each finger with a strip of foil. Place the finger so that the foil extends past the finger approximately 2 inches. Wrap your fingers tightly enough for the foil to stay on the finger without interfering with circulation. Twist the foil above the finger into a point. Curl the foil to create a curved claw.

Make claws from paper. Choose a paper color that corresponds with your costume. Use textured paper, such as soft or scaly paper, depending on the costume. Cut a rectancular piece of paper that is approximately 4 inches by 8 inches. Place the paper longways on a table. Fold the paper in half horizontally to make a square. Fold the square in half diagonally to form a triangle. Fold the bottom two points of the triangle over into the middle. Crease each side to form a little pocket. Stick a finger into the pocket to wear as a claw.

Sew claws from felt. Cut 20 identically sized isocoles triangles from felt. For adult fingers, cut triangles with dimensions approximately 3-by-3-by-1 inch. For children's fingers, cut triangles with dimensions approximately 2-by-2 by-1/2 inch. Align two triangles on top of each other. Sew the long sides of the triangles, leaving the short side open. Place a finger inside the felt claw and hold the felt on the finger by putting a rubber band around the bottom of the claw.
