How to Make a Tutu Skirt for a Newborn
Create an adorable tutu skirt for a newborn to wear alone or attach it to a diaper shirt for a tutu dress. You can give the homemade keepsake skirt to a mother-to-be at a baby shower and watch the guests ogle the adorable creation or make the tutu for your own infant.
Things You'll Need

1
Measure the waist circumference of the newborn and cut a piece of elastic to this length. If the baby has not yet been born, make the elastic about 18 inches long. You can cinch in the waist with a diaper pin later if it is too large.
-
2
Cut the tulle ribbon into strips. Make each strip 16 inches long and cut two to three strips for every inch of waist circumference.

3
Fold one of the tutu ribbon strips in half and knot it onto the elastic waistband. Fold another ribbon strip in half and knot it onto the waistband. Push the two knots tightly together.
-
4
Repeat Step 3 to attach each of the ribbon strips to the skirt.
-
5
Pin a large silk flower over top of the waistband. Sew it in place with a few stitches for a decorative embellishment.
