How to Make a Lasso or Slip Knot

Make a lasso and slip knot to rope stuff at home.

From grabbing objects to tightening around objects, lassos and slip knots can be used for various deeds. A lasso is a loop of rope designed to be thrown and tightened around targets. If someone wants to learn how to make a lasso, he must learn how to tie a Honda knot. A Honda knot, which is similar to a slip knot, is the loop knot used to make a lasso. Slip knots generally slip along the rope, and can be untied effortlessly. Learn how to make a lasso or slip knot to hook around things.

Instructions

Slip Knot

1. Grasp a piece of rope in front of the body. Cross the right end of the rope over the left end to make a loop.

2. Reach through the center of the loop, and grasp the dangling right side of the rope.

3. 

   Hook the slip knot around stuff, and pull on the end to tighten it.

   Pull the right side of the rope through the loop. Continue pulling until the loop tightens around the part pulling though, and a new loop forms. Do not let the end of the rope come through the loop.

Lasso

1. Grasp a piece of rope in front of the body. Cross the right end of the rope over the left end to make a loop.

2. 

   The end that was pulled through will become the loop of the lasso.

   Grasp the right end of the rope and pull it through the center of the loop to form a knot. Hold the rope in front of the body and one end of the rope will be on top.

3. Loosen the knot and it will look like a circle with a line down the middle. Grasp the upper end of the rope. Pull it through the right side opening of the circle.

4. Grasp the long end of the rope and the bottom right side of the loop. Pull the right bottom side of the loop upwards and pull the long end of the rope downwards to tighten the Honda knot.

Tips & Warnings

• Practice tying knots with a soft polyester rope.
