How to Assign Macros to Spells in WOW

Macros are one of the more advanced features of the interface of "World of Warcraft." They allow you to create complex commands that can make your game play more efficient, as well as helping to keep your spells and abilities better organized. Assigning macros to spells is useful for many purposes, such as assigning an entire spell rotation to the convenience of a single key. You still will need to press the macro button each time you want to cast the next spell in the sequence, however. Macros cannot in any way automate any aspects of the game play.

Instructions

    • 1

Access the macro interface by pressing "/m" without the quotes.

    • 2

Press the "New" button to make a new macro.

    • 3

Enter the name of your new macro and choose one of the icons from the list to the right. For best results with a spell casting macro, keep the default icon of the red question mark. This is a dynamic icon that changes with the spell being cast.

    • 4

Enter the macro programming. Use the "/cast" command followed by the name of the spell exactly as it is written in your spell book. For example, to make a macro that casts the buffs for a Mage, use the following commands: /cast Arcane Brilliance, /cast Molten Armor.

    • 5

Drag the macro icon for your new macro onto one of your action bars. If you wish to bind it to a hotkey, drag it onto a button already assigned to a key.
