How to Make a Tripod Pan Smoother

A basic rubber band is all you need for that smooth tripod pan.

A tripod holds the camera steady and allows you to get a smooth shot when making a homemade video. If you have trouble achieving a fluid movement while panning with your tripod, you can buy a new tripod, practice the movement, or use the rubber band trick. A rubber band attached to the tripod handle will absorb the excess movement and leave you with a perfect pan free of shaking and unevenness.

Things You'll Need

• Large rubber band

Instructions

1. Place your recording device on a tripod head, and screw it firmly into place.

2. Wrap a large rubber band once around the handle of the tripod.

3. Turn on your recording device and begin recording.

4. Insert your index finger into the rubber band, and pull it in the opposite direction that you want the camera to move.

Tips & Warnings

• "Fluid head" tripods are recommended for a smoother pan, but they are costly and generally used by professionals.
