Crochet The Vest
-
1
Wrap the yarn around the crochet hook, and catch the yarn facing the yarn skein with the hook. Pull the yarn through the hook on the crochet hook. This starts the yarn on the crochet hook.
-
2
Catch the yarn on the side facing the yarn skein with the crochet hook. Pull the yarn through the loop on the crochet hook. This makes a chain stitch.
-
-
3
Make 60 chain stitches. Measure the length of the chain. You want it 30 inches long. If it is smaller than 30 inches, add more stitches. If it is longer than 30 inches, remove stitches.
-
4
Loop the yarn around the crochet hook once, and slide the crochet hook through the chain stitch right next to the hook. Catch the yarn on the side facing the yarn skein. Pull it through the chain stitch. Wrap the yarn facing the skein around the crochet hook, and pull it through two loops on the crochet hook. Wrap the yarn around the crochet hook again, and pull it through the remaining loops on the crochet hook. This makes one double crochet stitch.
-
5
Put one double crochet stitch into each chain stitch across the row. This completes row one.
-
6
Chain two stitches, and put one double crochet stitch into each double crochet stitch in the last row. This completes row two. Repeat this procedure for the next six rows.
-
7
Make 14 chain stitches, and then put a double crochet stitch in the 15th stitch in the last row. Put a double crochet stitch into each of the stitches in the rest of the last row.
-
8
Chain two stitches, and put one double crochet stitch into each double crochet stitch in the last row. This completes row two. Repeat this procedure for the next 19 rows.
-
9
Make 14 chain stitches, and then put a double crochet stitch in the 15th stitch in the last row. Put a double crochet stitch into each of the stitches in the rest of the last row.
-
10
Chain two stitches, and put one double crochet stitch into each double crochet stitch in the last row. This completes row two. Repeat this procedure for the next eight rows.
-
11
Cut the yarn four inches from the last stitch on the side facing the yarn skein. Pull the yarn through the last stitch, and weave the excess yarn into the existing stitches using the crochet hook.
-
12
Lay the crocheted material on a flat surface with the side that has the two openings facing away from you. This is the top of the garment. Fold the left side in towards the center. Make the fold on the line where the opening is on the left side. Line up the top edge, so it is neat. Pin it in place with stick pins. Repeat the procedure on the right side.
-
13
Thread the yarn needle with a 60-inch piece of yarn. Pull the yarn so it is even on each side of the needle. Tie any kind of knot, so it holds the ends of the yarn together. Sew the top edge from the opening over three inches towards the right side. Repeat the procedure on the right side, but sew three inches towards the left side.
-
14
Remove the stick pins from the garment. Turn the vest right side out.
