Instructions

    • 1

Have the bride stretch out her arms, on either side of her body. Make sure her arms are at shoulder height. Measure from the middle fingertip on the right hand, to the middle finger tip of the left hand. Add 4 inches to your measurement.

    • 2

Lay your fabric out on a flat surface. Make sure it lays face down so you are looking at the back of the fabric.

    • 3

Start at the side of your fabric and measure in to the length you took in Step 1. Mark this spot with tailor's chalk. Make your way down the fabric, toward the bottom edge, measuring in and marking the fabric. This will create a dot-to-dot type vertical line. Lay a yard stick vertically along the marks. Draw a line through the marks.

    • 4

Measure from the bottom edge of the fabric, up to the measurement you took in Step 1. Go across the fabric marking that measurement with tailor's chalk. Continue this until you reach the vertical line you drew. Lay the yard stick horizontally along this new dot-to-dot line and draw a solid line connecting the marks.

    • 5

Cut along the lines with scissors. You should have a perfect square piece of fabric. Sew your white, jeweled appliques at one corner of the fabric. You can sew more appliques on from that corner if you want to add more detail.

    • 6

Fold the square in half, diagonally. This will create a triangle. Check to see that the appliques are facing the inside. You will turn the shawl right-side-out later.

    • 7

Line up the edges and pin them in place. Use a sewing machine to sew the edges together. Leave a 3 inch opening at one edge. Remove the pins.

    • 8

Turn the shawl right-side-out, through the 3-inch opening. Hand sew the the opening up. Press the edges with an iron.

    • 9

Follow along the edges of the triangle shawl with the white trim. Hold the trim in place with pins. Use a sewing machine to sew the trim to the fabric. Remove the pins.

    • 10

Have the bride slip the shawl around her shoulders for a test fit. The appliques should be facing out for everyone to see.
