How to Make Beaded Frog Keychains With Pony Beads
Pony beads make for fun, easy crafts for kids. The beads are versatile and come in a variety of colors. Make a simple beaded frog from pony beads to use as a key chain, zipper pull, or for decoration. These instructions are for making a frog that will hook onto something.
Things You'll Need
- 50 Green pony beads
- 12 Yellow pony beads
- 2 Black pony beads
- 2 Yards cord
- 1 Lanyard hook or metal key ring
Instructions

1
Fold the cord in half. Secure it to the lanyard hook or metal key ring by threading it through the hoop, using a half-hitch. This means that the cord is looped and both ends are threaded through the loop. Pull ends until loop is tightened around the lanyard hoop.

2
Pick three green beads and thread them onto one strand. Take the end of the second strand and thread it through the three beads, going in on the opposite side. The two threads will stay threaded in this manner for the body portion.

3
Thread the second row in the same way as the first row. Line up a black bead, two green and then one more black. Make sure to thread the two strings in opposite directions so each row rests up against each other.
-
4
Add rows three and four in the same way as in the previous steps. Rows three and four consist of five green beads.
-
5
Count out two sets of four green beads and three yellow beads. These will make the arms. For the right arm, thread the four green and three yellow onto one strand. Take the end of that strand and double around to thread it back into the green beads. The yellow will bunch up to make the front fin. Repeat same procedure for the left arm.

6
Form the body of the frog by counting out two more rows of six green beads, each. Add in the same way as you did the head portion. You have now completed rows five and six.
-
7
Count five beads for row 7 and thread. This is the end of the body section.
-
8
Create the back legs. Count five green and three yellow beads. In the same way the arms were threaded, repeat for the legs. Thread the string through all green and yellow, then thread back up through only the green.
-
9
Complete both legs and bring the thread up through the two end beads of the last row of the body section. Bring ends out at the middle bead and tie into a secure knot. The frog is now completed. You can use the hook to attach the frog to your key chain.
