How to Easily Alter a T-Shirt
Graphic tees and baggy T-shirts are familiar and comfortable. They're easy to throw on for relaxing and running errands. If your closet is full of T-shirts that you still love but you need to make room for a new style of clothes, keep one of the T-shirts and alter it slightly to create a dress. With a few basic tools and a little imagination, you can turn a baggy T-shirt into the centerpiece of a stylish and yet still comfortable new outfit.

1
Wear an old baggy T-shirt inside out. Stand in front of a mirror and mark the spot on the T-shirt that you'd like it to reach to with a fabric pencil. Turn it into a short dress that you can wear with leggings by marking it 4 inches below your hips.

2
Take off the T-shirt, but leave it inside out. Change the T-shirt into a sleeveless tee by pinching the fabric on the sleeves about 2 inches above the shoulder and 2 inches to 3 inches beneath the armpit on the side seam. Pin the fabric to mark the adjustments to each armhole.

3
Cut off the sleeves and sew the alterations to the shoulder and side seams that are marked by the pins into place.

4
Add a V-neck or scoop neck to your shirt by drawing a new neckline on the front of the T-shirt with a fabric pencil. Cut the fabric 1/2-inch above the line. Pin the excess fabric along the line and sew it into place.
-
5
Measure the distance from the collar to the hem mark and make equally long marks along that line every few inches around the shirt to ensure an even hem. Cut the T-shirt 1/2-inch below all lines.
-
6
Fold the T-shirt over at the marks and pin the new hem line in place. Sew the new hem with a sewing machine. Flip the T-shirt right-side out and try it on.
