How to Make Three-Tier Wedding Cake Boxes for Cards

If you are short on time, you can buy round boxes with patterns that already match your desired look instead of using wrapping paper to decorate them.

Creating a box in the shape of a three-tiered wedding cake makes a creative place for your wedding guests to put their cards. You can decorate the "cake" to fit the theme or colors of your wedding, and you can use it as an attractive and distinctive centerpiece for the gift table. You can also use this craft if you need a place to store wedding invitations or other cards and letters you receive from your friends.

Things You'll Need

• 3 round boxes (large, medium and small)
• Wrapping paper
• Pencil
• Scissors
• Ruler
• String
• Craft glue
• Ribbon
• Decorations (figurines, fake flowers or other items)

Instructions

1. Turn the three box lids upside down on a sheet of wrapping paper and trace their outlines with a pencil, leaving a few inches between the circles you trace. Cut out the three circles, cutting an inch or two beyond the edge of the line to allow for enough paper to cover the lip of each lid.

2. Brush craft glue around the sides and across the tops of the box lids. Glue the circles of wrapping paper to the tops of the box lids, folding the edges down to cover the lip of each lid and folding any excess paper up inside the box lid.

3. Wrap a large sheet of wrapping paper tightly around the biggest box and make pencil marks to indicate the length and width of the piece you need to cut to cover the box. Cut out a rectangle whose width equals the box's height and whose length equals its circumference. Repeat with the other two boxes.

4. Glue the wrapping paper rectangles to the sides of the boxes.

5. Glue the bottom of the medium box to the top of the large lid, making sure to match center to center. Glue the bottom of the small box to the top of the medium lid in the same fashion.

6. Glue a band of ribbon around the base of each box as a decorative highlight. Use craft glue to add artificial flowers, wedding cake toppers or other decorations that match the theme of your wedding or the decorative style you want for your card box.
