How to Adjust a Crown Ladder Rack

A Crown ladder rack installs on the top of trucks and vans. It is composed of poles that attach to the truck and hold ladders that are too long to fit into the bed of the truck. Since there are variously sized ladders, it might become necessary to adjust the ladder rack so it can accompany ladders of different sizes. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Locate the clamp brackets along the middle of the ladder rack that are holding the rack in place. Loosen the bolts with a 9/16-inch wrench and move them out until the ladder can fit on the rack. Set the ladder down carefully on the rack and slide it up so it is hanging over both ends of the truck equally.

    • 2

Slide the ladder toward the back of the truck or van until it touches the rear clamp bracket. Move the front stop post toward the rear of the truck or van until it touches the ladder rung. Tighten it down with the wrench.

    • 3

Adjust the clamp brackets with the same wrench up or down until they fit snug over the top ladder rung. Release the handle and slide the ladder toward the rear of the van or truck. Loosen and slide the front stop post 1/2-inch toward the rear.

    • 4

Tighten the front stop post back in place with the wrench and grip the ladder. Verify it is secure in place and tighten the fasteners down on the side of the van or truck with an adjustable wrench. These fasteners can become loose and should be checked periodically.
