If your shelf is made of a heavier and sturdier metal, build it in the room in which it will be placed. Lighter shelves can easily be transported from one location to another. Hold the metal shelves upright, approximately a shelf-length distance apart. If possible, ask a friend or family member to help you hold one of the sides. Otherwise, lean it against a wall or workbench while you support the other side.

2
Position the bottom shelf between the two posts. Put the shelf's knobs into the posts' bottom keyhole openings. Push the shelf down to snap it into place. Place a level on the shelf. Use a rubber mallet to hit the shelf's high end further down, if necessary.

Tips & Warnings
Some metal stacking shelves require that you put together the shelves themselves. In this case, put the shelves' front and back beams in place between the posts, then install the shorter piece between the two shelf beams, in the keyhole slots.
