1
Stand in front of a mirror. Place the necktie, with the side to be shown facing up, around your neck. The wide end of the tie should hang about a foot lower than the narrow end.
-
2
Make an "X" shape by looping the wide end of the tie around the underside of the narrow end.
-
-
3
Loop the knot again by running the wide end under the narrow end and up through the neck hole you've just created, and then pulling it down so it overlaps the narrow end.
-
4
Take the wide tip of the necktie and guide it to the right, running it behind the base of the knot you're creating. Loop it through the neck hole again, pulling it toward the right after the end clears the hole.
-
5
Overlap the knot by running the wide side across the knot from the right to the left. Pull the end through the neck hole; then drop the end through the overlap.
-
6
Loosen the tie from your neck just enough so that it slides over your head. Do this by pulling slowly at the neck and letting the ends of the tie slide through the knot. The tie is now ready to be put back over your head and tightened at your leisure.

Tips & Warnings
There are several knot styles and methods for tying them. Experiment to see what you like best, keeping in mind that certain knots should be used with certain collars.
If properly tied, the end of the necktie should fall to your waistline.
Leaving a tie, especially one made of silk, in the tied position can cause damage to the fabric. To avoid damage, ties should be untied and stored after using them.
