How to Make a Floral Hair Clip
Create a multitude of floral hair clips from the petals of silk flowers. You can make the hair clip from layers of the same flower petals or make a unique hair clip from layers of petals from different flowers. Add a gemstone to the center of the top flower petal on the hair clip and extra flair by covering the petals with a little bit of glitter. You can make the hair clips for yourself or separate the petals ahead of time and use the craft as a party activity for a group of little girls.
Things You'll Need
- Silk flowers
- Craft brads (brad paper fasteners with decorative tops)
- 1/2 inch wide ribbon
- Hot glue gun
- Glue sticks
- Metal or plastic hair clip
- Glitter (optional)
- Craft glue (optional)

1
Remove the stems from the silk flowers. Pull out the center of the flower and separate the layers of petals. You should now have several one-layer flower shapes with a hole in the middle of each.
-
2
Lay four or five layers of petals on top of each other and align the center holes.

3
Slide a decorative craft brad through the center holes from the top of the flowers and press open the back of the brad onto the underside of the bottom petals. A craft brad is like a brad paper fastener. The arms of the brad are inserted into the center of the flower and then bent outward to hold the layers of the flower together.

Measure the length of the top of the hair clip. Cut a piece of ribbon to this length plus about 1/2 inch; glue the ribbon, using a glue gun or glue stick, over the top of the metal or plastic hair clip. Fold the extra 1/4 inch of ribbon over each end of the clip.
-
5
Spread a layer of glue on the back center of the bottom flower and press it firmly against the top of the hair clip. Hold the flower in place for about 30 seconds. Let the glue dry before wearing the new hair accessory.
-
6
Apply a little bit of glue over the edges of the petals and sprinkle a little bit of glitter on top of the glue. Tap the flower petals to remove the excess glitter.
