How to Make Ariel's Blue Dress From "Thundarr the Barbarian"
Princess Ariel is a sexy sorceress character from the cult classic TV show "Thundarr the Barbarian," which aired in the early 1980's. The cartoon character is still a favorite for dress-up parties, and her blue costume and bright yellow boots and cuffs are identifiable as the spell-casting hero from the series. Ariel's "dress" is more like a leotard or swimsuit, so be prepared to reveal a lot of flesh with this outfit.

1
Lay out a blue halter-neck one-piece swimsuit on the work surface. Mark a "V" shape at the front that parallels the cut of the swimsuit leg holes and is around 3 inches wide. Turn the swimsuit over and continue the lines of the "V" up the back until the top line touches the top of the swimsuit back. This should look like a 3-inch wide band that goes around the whole swimsuit, coming to a point at the front.

2
Cut out a piece of yellow fabric the same dimensions as the band on the swimsuit, adding a 1/2-inch seam allowance on all sides. Fold over the seam allowance then press flat with an iron.
-
3
Pin the yellow band to the swimsuit over the chalk lines, then topstitch the band to the swimsuit.
-
4
Measure the distance from your wrists to around 2 inches away from your elbow, as well as the circumference of your arm at each point. Cut out two pieces of yellow fabric to this dimension, adding 1/2 inch seam allowance to the ends and 1 inch to the sides.
-
5
Fold over the seams on the fabric pieces, adding a strip of Velcro to each side of the fabric pieces then sewing down all the seams. The fabric cuffs will wrap around the lower arm at the wrist, securing with Velcro.
-
6
Wear the costume and cuffs with calf-high yellow socks, yellow shoes (if you have yellow calf-high boots, then use those) as well as a golden bindi or costume jewel stuck to the center of the forehead at the hairline with costume glue or fake eyelash glue.
