How to Close a Necklace Made From a Loom

Weaving on a loom offers a variety of ways to create jewelry. Scarves, shawls and blankets are most often made on looms, but by using a smaller spool loom, you can weave necklaces. Customize your necklace by adding beads or weaving with different kinds of fabrics, including yarn, crochet cotton or even wire. When learning to weave a necklace, it is also important to know the proper steps to remove the work from the loom and finish the project.

Instructions

    • 1

Complete the last row for your necklace by knitting over the loops on the bottom, leaving just one row of loops on the pegs.

    • 2

Locate the peg that has been wrapped last. This is the peg that your strand of yarn is wrapped around and hanging from. This is the ending peg, or the peg you will end with.

    • 3

Slide your loom pick beneath the loop on the peg that is clockwise to the ending peg. Lift the loop off of the peg. Push the loop onto the peg that you will end with, on top of the other loop.

    • 4

Grab the bottom loop with your loom pick and lift the loop up and over the peg, knitting it into the necklace. This will only leave one or two other looped pegs, besides the ending peg. Some loom necklaces are created by using three pegs, while others are created with four. It depends on the pattern you are using.

    • 5

Position your loom pick beneath the loop on the next peg that is clockwise to the ending peg. If there is only one peg remaining, use that peg. Pull the loop off of the peg and push it down over the loop on the ending peg.

    • 6

Pull the bottom loop up over the top and off of the peg, knitting it into the necklace.

    • 7

Lift the loop off of the fourth peg, if necessary, and push it onto the ending peg. Knit this loop into the necklace, leaving a single loop on the ending peg. Cut the wrapping yarn, leaving about a 10-inch tail.

    • 8

Insert the loom pick under the remaining loop and lift it off of the loom. Do not release it from the pick. Grab the string that is coming from the same end as the loop. Push the end of the string through the loop. Pull the string tight, securing the loop in place. Tie a knot over the loop, securing it in place.

    • 9

Tie a clasp onto the necklace, with one piece on each side. Slide one side of the clasp onto the string. Push it tight against the necklace. Secure in place with a knot. Clip the end of string, leaving a short tail after the clasp. Repeat this process to attach the other end of the clasp to the other side of the necklace.
