How to Decorate Bathrooms With Towel Bars and Rings

Update your bathroom with a new towel bar or ring.

Towel bars and rings provide practical and decorative uses in the bathroom because they allow you to keep wet towels off the floor, while showing off towels that complement or establish your bathroom decorating style, color scheme and theme. Coordinate the style of the towel bar and ring with the rest of your permanent bathroom fixtures, such as the faucet knobs. If all of your permanent fixtures complement each other in style and finish, you can update the rest of your bathroom decor quickly and inexpensively when you're inspired to do so.

Instructions

1. Hang towels and hand towels on the towel bar and ring. Mix and match the towels and hand towels with different colors and patterns to establish your decorating color scheme, theme and style. For example, layer a chocolate brown, cream and turquoise striped towel with a solid chocolate brown hand towel and turquoise washcloth on the towel bar and a cream or cream and turquoise patterned hand towel on the towel ring. Towel rings are typically hung directly next to the sink, making it the primary tool for drying hands; whereas the towel bar is typically a more decorative tool.

2. Accessorize your bathroom with baskets, bins and counter containers that complement the style of the towel bar and rings, while supplying practical storage options. A basket with a yellow ribbon can work with a yellow and blue rubber duck theme that includes white towels with blue stripes and images of yellow rubber ducks. Roll up towels or washcloths to set in larger bins or baskets for easy access if the towels complement the decorative hanging towels.

3. Embellish the hanging towels by tying a thick ribbon around the towels on the towel bar or layering two thin hand towels or washcloths of different colors or patterns on the towel ring. Twine, ribbon, string, beaded or tasseled cords can tie the towels together, allowing a practical way to include a silk flower or giving you the chance to coordinate bins and baskets by tying the same color and style of ribbon around those objects.
