Socialization is very important for a four-year-old child's development.

Four-year-old kindergarten, or Pre-K, is a great way to get your child used to school and to begin socializing more outside of the house. If you live in an area where it is not offered, preschool is another option. If you cannot afford or prefer to not send your child to preschool, there are still ways to help your four year old socialize with other children.

Instructions

  1. Play Dates

    • 1

Determine a date about two weeks away to schedule a play date. Make a list of friends that have children that you would like to invite over. Call them and extend an invitation for them and their children to come play for the afternoon.

    • 2

Introduce your child to the other children that come to the play date. Point out any common likes or dislikes that your child may have with each one of them. Encourage them to talk with one another and get to know each other.

    • 3

Suggest a game that they can all play together. Help them work out any disagreements they have about which game to play. Talk with them so that they are all comfortable and getting along.

    • 4

Ask your child to offer all of the children a snack and something to drink. Suggest that she also help you serve the items to her new friends.

    • 5

Leave the room and let the children play and get to know each other. Check on them periodically so there are no problems and everyone is getting along. Repeat the play date every couple weeks to continually help your child stay comfortable while learning to socialize.
