How to Increase FPTR in Crochet
Create a raised textured pattern on a crocheted piece when you make a FPTR stitch (front post treble, or triple) stitch. The post is the vertical line that a stitch forms when it is made on the foundation chain and subsequent rows of work. When working on the front post stitch, you will crochet into the front of the stitch. You can make a front loop treble stitch by making a treble stitch around the vertical post. Increase the FPTR to make a piece that is wider in one area than another.
Instructions
-
-
1
Wrap yarn around the crochet hook two times.
-
2
Insert the hook tip at the right side of the front of the post until it is behind the post.
-
-
3
Push the head of the hook back out at the left side of the front post. The front post is in front of your hook.
-
4
Wrap yarn over the hook one time. Pull the yarn through past the post. There will be four loops on the hook. The stitch is raised up.
-
5
Wrap yarn over and pull it through two loops on the hook. You will now have three loops remaining on the hook.
-
6
Yarn over and pull it through two loops, leaving two loops on the hook.
-
7
Yarn over and pull it through two loops, leaving one loop on the hook. Your front post treble stitch is now complete.
-
8
Wrap yarn around the crochet hook two times as you did in step 1.
-
9
Insert the hook through the same stitch you just made. Increase the row you are working on by making a second FPTR in this stitch.

Tips & Warnings
When you are instructed in a pattern to increase, you will crochet two front post trebles in the stitch.
Pay close attention to your count down as you make this stitch or it will be malformed.
