How to Export Photos With Watermarks in Lightroom thumbnail
After taking the perfect photo, watermark it using Lightroom.

Watermarks help protect digital photos. Pictures you see on the Web, for example, may display the word "Copyright" somewhere in the image. The opacity of the word or phrase varies according to the settings that the photo's owner used to create the watermark. Adobe Photoshop Lightroom, an image enhancement program, allows you to add text and graphic watermarks to your photos and export them quickly.

Instructions

  1. Open Watermarks Editor

    • 1

Launch Lightroom, then click "Import." Your computer's folders appears on the left side of the Lightroom window.

    • 2

Click a folder that contains photos. Thumbnails of the images will appear in the center of the window. Double-click one of the photos. Lightroom displays it in the center of the window.

    • 3

Click the "Web" button in the window's upper right corner. Several panels appear on the right side of the window. Scroll through the panels and locate the Output Settings panel. Click "Watermarking," then click "Simple Copyright Watermark."

    • 4

Click "Edit Watermarks." Lightroom opens the Watermark Editor. Your photo appears in the editor's Preview panel.

    Add Graphic Watermark

    • 5

Click the "Choose" button at the top of Lightroom to display an Open window. The Open window contains a list of your computer's image files.

    • 6

Double-click an image. Lightroom adds that image as a tiny watermark to your photo's lower left corner in the Preview panel.

    • 7

Click the watermark image you added. A handle appears in the image's upper right corner. Click that handle, hold down your left mouse button and drag the handle if you would like to make the watermark larger. Otherwise, leave the watermark image at its original size.

    Add Text Watermark

    • 8

Click the "Text" button at the top of the Watermark Editor. Type the text that you want to use as your watermark. Lightroom adds your text to your photo in the Preview panel.

    • 9

Click the "Font" drop-down menu, then click the font you wish to use for the text. Click the "Style" drop-down menu to display a list of text styles. Click one of the styles to apply it to the text.

    • 10

Click the "Color" button to display a list of colors. Double-click one of the colors. Lightroom sets the watermark's color to the color you selected.

    • 11

Click "Left," "Center" or "Right" to set the location of the watermark on your photo.

    • 12

Click "Save" to apply your changes. Chick "File," then click "Export." Click "Export to Hard Drive," then click "Export."

Tips & Warnings

  • Experiment with the Watermark Editor's sliders when adding a text watermark to a photo. Different combinations of slider settings produce unique text effects. For instance, if you want to create a text watermark that you can barely see, drag the "Opacity" slider farther to the right. Try different colors as well. Some may work better with your photos than others.
