How to Add a Block Quotation to a Web Page

Emphasize a block of text, a quotation or important snippet using HTML tags.

Instructions
  1. Step 1

    Open the page in a text editing program, such as EditPad or Notepad.

  2. Step 2

    Place the cursor in front of the paragraph to be aligned.

  3. Step 3

    Type the following before the text:

    . Blockquote will indent the paragraph from both sides, forming a 'block' of words.

  4. Step 4

    Close the tag after the text by typing the following, beginning and ending with a bracket: .

  5. Step 5

    Save the file and open the page in a web browser to view the changes.

Tips & Warnings
  • Blockquote is generally used for quotes, or lines that need to be differentiated form the rest of the text.
