How to Make an Operable Gate on "Halo 3"

"Halo 3 allows" players to create their own worlds, and with a bit of innovation anything is possible.

The Halo universe has attracted millions fans since its inception in 2001; from "Combat Evolved" to the onslaught of novels, the Halo lore continues to expand. "Halo 3" introduced a new expansion to that world, one that could be created by the player for the player -- Forge World. In Forge World, players are given a list of materials that allows them to create their own "worlds" in a distinctly Halo universe. With no shortage of brilliant ideas, fans took to forging bold new arenas with the innovation of amateur architects. One such idea is the operable gate; a deceptively simple design that allows players to create a gate complete with a working "switch" for opening the gate to new parts of a level.

Instructions

1. Find a location for your operable gate, preferably an enclosed space with a narrow exit.

2. Place two dumpsters or barriers with properties of "instant respawn" in the narrow exit.

3. Spawn a weapon holder on top of a crate followed by a gravity lift (Respawn Rate = "Never," Place On Start = "Yes") at a downward angle in front of the weapon holder outside of your gate. Delete the crate. 

4. Set an fusion coil inside your gate area with a respawn rate of "never."

5. Drop a crate directly over the gravity lift you set earlier. Drop a fusion coil over the crate with the following properties: Respawn rate = 180, Place On Start = No, Runtime Minimum = 1. Delete the crate.

6. Place a barrier behind the dumpsters in your gate area. Use two barriers to make a right angle to hold a weapon holder facing directly toward the barriers blocking the exit. Set a gravity lift in front of the weapon holder so that it is higher than the barriers and with the following properties: Respawn Rate = 180, Place On Start = No, Runtime Minimum = 1. Delete the boxes and barriers so that only the weapon holder, gravity lift and fusion coil remain in your area. Start a new round.

7. Set up a series of "walls" above your gravity lift so that it resembles an enclosed "tube." Blow up the fusion coil to activate the gate.
