How Do I Clean a Cashmere Scarf?

As dry cleaning prices skyrocket, it's handy to know how to launder your own cashmere scarf. Cashmere, considered a luxury item, can be worn for years, even decades, if it is cared for properly. Laundering your cashmere scarf at home will not only save money, but it will ensure the scarf is always clean and looking its best.

Things You'll Need

• Mild detergent
• Clean towel

Instructions

1. Fill a tub or sink with lukewarm water and add the recommended amount of a mild detergent that is nonallergenic. Typically, it will be about two capfuls or 2 tsp. of detergent.

2. Move the scarf through the water with gentle back and forth movements. Because it is a natural fiber, it will regain its shape as it dries.

3. Rinse thoroughly with lukewarm water until all the detergent is washed away.

4. Roll up in a dry towel several times until all of the excess water is removed. Do not twist and wring out the water because it can damage the scarf and its shape.

5. Lay on a clean towel until the cashmere scarf is completely dry.
