How to Start a Ministry Chapter
Many people find themselves disillusioned with their current churches or ministries and want to start their own. The prospect of leading a ministry chapter, in a way that you or a small group feels is best, creates fulfillment. Creating an authorized church ministry, however, isn't as easy as simply preaching on the mount. A recognized church ministry requires extensive planning and follow through. Many people are not prepared for the time or financial commitment of creating their own church chapter.

1
Develop a following of people willing to relocate to a new church or ministry. If a new ministry is to survive, it is going to need parishioners and support from the moment the doors open. Gather a team willing to help plan and share the tasks to help create the new ministry. This team becomes the ministry's board of directors.

2
Choose a denomination or become non-denominational. There are many different types of religious groups, such as Pentecostal and Methodist. Decide if your ministry will be affiliated with one of these groups or be non-denominational and open to everyone of all faiths. Contact the parent organization, if you choose to be denominational, to find out the specific requirements for being recognized by their group, such as hiring a minister versus a lay preacher, and any mandatory rituals and paperwork.

3
Call a lawyer and begin proceedings for the articles of incorporation for becoming a 501(c)3 group and ministry charter. A ministry is like a business and treated as such under the law. A recognized ministry is tax-exempt and needs a clear plan with a charter and bylaws. Your team can help develop this plan in conjunction with the lawyer.

4
Find a meeting place large enough to accommodate your parishioners and has room to grow. Rent or buy the space, and set up specific times for sermons and any other groups, such as Sunday school or youth group. Purchase chairs and any items needed for the ministry, such as religious texts, candles and communion wafers.
-
5
Hold religious ceremonies regularly and on-time. Build up the parishioner base by advertising, taking part in local events and hosting functions at the church. Hire a bookkeeper to keep track of church donations and finances as well as spending.
