How to Connect a Headphone to a TV

You can connect headphones to a TV with the help of an adapter.

If you want to listen to music in privacy without disturbing people nearby, you probably plug headphones into the sound jack of your audio device. If you want to watch television at night, or for some reason don't want others to hear the television, you can use a special adapter to connect high-quality headphones to a TV configured to be connected to external speakers.

Things You'll Need

• Stereo headphones
• RCA-headphone adapter
• TV instruction manual

Instructions

1. Turn the volume of your TV down to avoid damaging your headphones.

2. Plug the ends of the RCA adapter into the RCA audio slots on your TV. These are red and white.

3. Plug your headphones into the other end of the adapter.

4. Access your TV's configuration menu and disable the internal speakers per the instructions in your user manual; many TVs will continue playing audio through their internal speakers despite having headphones connected.
