How to Make an Editable Region in Dreamweaver CS5

Making editable regions only applies to Dreamweaver CS5 templates, because pages unassociated with templates are already fully editable. Templates offer a way to quickly reproduce and edit elements on numerous pages without worrying that these elements may be inadvertently modified. By default, templates do not contain any editable regions, so you need to designate areas that can accept content. Pages created from a template are locked, except for these editable areas. This allows you to add content to the new page, but preserve the integrity of the common elements.

Instructions

    • 1

Open your template in Dreamweaver CS5.

    • 2

Right-click the area you wish to make editable, point to "Templates," and select "New Editable Region.

    • 3

Type a name for the editable region in the pop-up window, and press "Enter."

    • 4

Hold the "Ctrl" key, and press "S" to save your changes.
