How to Override the Password for a MacBook
A MacBook, just like every other Mac running Mac OS X, requires at least one administrator account. This account must have a password, something that is necessary when installing software or performing updates. If you forget this password, you will be forced to reset it, a process that takes several minutes but is fairly straightforward. It's important to note that a MacBook can support multiple administrator accounts.

1
Boot up your MacBook. If the computer automatically logs into a user account (i.e. the desktop appears at the end of the booting process), then select "System Preferences" from under the apple in the upper left corner of the screen. Click on "Accounts" to determine how many accounts have been created and how many of these accounts have administrator privileges. If the computer requires a password to log into any of the accounts, you will have to boot up using your Mac OS X installation disc.

2
Always store your Mac OS X installation CD in a safe place. Insert your Mac OS X installation disc into your MacBook's drive and reboot the computer. Hold the "C" key down before the computer starts the booing process. Once you see the spinning wheel on the screen, you can release the "C" key.

Click on the arrow in the lower right corner of the "Welcome" screen once your MacBook has finished booting from the OS X disc. On the second screen, pull down on the "Utilities" menu and select "Reset Password."

A password helps protect the data on your MacBook. Select the account whose password you want to change from the pull down list. Note that you only want to change the passwords on accounts with administrator access. If you want to change the password for more than one account, you will have to perform the entire process on each account one by one. Note that you can also opt to keep the password field blank, meaning you merely have to hit "Enter" or "Return" keys to proceed when the password prompt appears.

Select "Quit" from under the Utilities menu to exit the Reset Password utility. Select "Restart" to reboot the MacBook and hold down the trackpad button to eject the Mac OS X disc. Once the disc has ejected, you can release the button. The password has now been successfully changed.
